Textiles Practice: The Second Year - Weekend One Reflection

Thought provoking presentations humbled by others sharing personal thoughts. Panic about the creative research – can’t think what to do! Revision of library skills always helpful would like to practise this rather than just hearing – give me an exercise to do – I learn by doing. Creative research what shall I do? Cyanotype printing. A new skilled learnt – always enjoyable.   The material culture analysis was interesting and informative. What textiles will I research? What have I access to? Help! Information from peer group was helpful and gratefully received. Ideas beginning to form – I think I have a plan.

Textile Tales: Reflective Writing - Summer Project "A Sense of Place"

I  was resistant to beginning. It had been a difficult year emotionally. I needed time to heal. ‘A Sense of Place’ was too personal to contemplate. After failed attempts to begin I put pen to paper. On completion I was surprised by my strong affinity for the north-east of England, specifically the city of Newcastle Upon Tyne and Northumberland. Reviewing, the project is a personal view of me – my passion for space and earth to my back garden. I became more focussed on the respect I have for green plants that share the space I call home.
